Radical proposals to tackle London's poor air pollution put forward by the Liberal Democrat London Assembly
Mike Tuffrey, on behalf of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group, has responded to the Mayor's consultation on his air quality strategy.
Further action is advocated to tackle air pollution in London including:
- targeted action to reduce particulate pollution (PM10) in central London where the problem is worst, through the creation of a Central London Clear Air Zone
- implementation of phase 3 of the Low Emission Zone in October 2010 as originally planned, if the Mayor decides not to introduce a Central London Clear Air Zone
- the speeding up on the clean up of buses and taxis
- delivering a step change in attitudes to walking and cycling, with ambitious targets set for how many more journeys can be made on foot and by bike
